  • The Liebherr 370 EC-B 12 Fibre supports construction of the new Hotel Amstel 111 in Amsterdam’s historic city centre
  • Crane from the rental fleet of Dutch dealer Van der Spek impresses with high lifting capacity and cost-efficient operation
  • Fibre rope technology ensures efficient work, reduced downtime and maximum performance in extremely confined spaces

In the middle of Amsterdam’s historic old town, a Liebherr 370 EC-B 12 Fibre is supporting the construction of the new Hotel Amstel 111. The flat-top crane from the rental fleet of Liebherr’s Dutch partner Van der Spek is mastering complex lifting operations along the River Amstel, in an environment defined by narrow access routes and very limited space. The Fibre rope technology guarantees maximum efficiency and precision.

Amsterdam (Netherlands), 18 December 2025 – The construction of the new hotel at Amstel 111 places extremely high demands on planning and logistics: the site is located in the densely built-up city centre, right beside the canals. For the lifting work, construction company Salverda Bouw therefore opted for a Liebherr 370 EC-B 12 Fibre, set up on a compact 6 x 6 metre undercarriage with a hook height of 48 metres.

Fibre technology proves its worth on site

With its low dead weight and high lifting capacity, the 370 EC-B 12 Fibre offers ideal conditions for urban construction projects. The innovative fibre rope enables increases in lifting capacity of up to 20 percent compared with conventional steel rope, while significantly reducing maintenance requirements. Projects such as Hotel Amstel 111 benefit particularly from this: the low rope weight, easy handling and high operational safety ensure efficient workflows in extremely tight spaces. Thanks to extended on-site repair options and the ability to shorten the rope, downtime on site is significantly reduced. The system’s high cost-efficiency is another reason why Fibre cranes are increasingly popular.

The Liebherr 370 EC-B 12 Fibre in use comes from Van der Spek’s rental fleet and was installed directly on the Amstel by an experienced assembly team, surrounded by the historic canal scenery. The crane installation required absolute precision: due to limited ground load capacity, the largest telescopic crane involved in the erection had to be positioned on a specially prepared sand bed with wooden dragline mats. In total, 36 transport vehicles and three telescopic cranes were needed to assemble the Liebherr crane at the site.

A new meeting place in the heart of Amsterdam

Developed by the Aedes Group, Hotel Amstel 111 is set to become a vibrant meeting point for travellers and locals alike. The design combines the classic architectural character of Amsterdam’s historic centre with modern, sustainable building standards. Generous glass façades, light surfaces and green outdoor areas blend seamlessly into the historic surroundings, a prime example of how modern urban development and heritage preservation can go hand in hand.
